Been eyeing this for awhile, patiently waiting to try one. It’s one of those things where you don’t want to break a set however, you just want to see what they are all about. Tonight was the night to see if patience paid off.
Let’s see how this is progressing….
The 2006 Trinidad Torres Iznaga is a monstrous cigar. It comes in at a 52 ring gauge, is 6.7 inches in length and the official vitola name is Torre Iznaga. A time commitment to smoke, that’s for sure.
This is the sixth book release under the Colleccion Habanos line. There were 500 books released and each book contained 20 cigars.

The wrapper on the cigar is exquisite. No veins to speak of and has a nice caramel, honey, soft brown hue to it. The aromas from the wrapper are: honey, barnyard and cocoa. Very strong aromas from the wrapper.
The construction is excellent. Nice and firm throughout the cigar with a little give when squeezed. No soft spots at all. The pig tailed triple cap is beautiful and the foot is nice and packed.
A quick twist from my punch and we have the green light to proceed.
The draw is perfect. Nice airflow with a slight resistance to it. This should smoke beautifully.
The initial flavours from the cold draw are: sourdough bread, nutmeg, leather and earth.
Time to take this to the flame….
Very mellow. The strength is at a medium level and the flavours are very subtle and complex. Sneaky smooth, particularly on the retrohale. Nutmeg, leather, honey and earth welcome me to the show. Very relaxing….
The draw is a little firm. Might have to use my Palio to open up the draw a little bit. Still allows for decent draws but would like to get a bit more. The smoke production is excellent and the burn is a little wonky. The ash is a ‘Dirty’ grey.
The after finish is just hypnotizing. Very tranquil. Nice layers of nutmeg, leather, earth and honey just gently lay on my palate for a long time. Very complex and refined. Nicely balanced between strength and flavours. No harshness at all. A sense of purity when smoking this…
All I can say is WOW!!! The subtle changes in this cigar is impressive. A little tweak here, a little tweak there. The leather and earth have picked up a bit but the nutmeg and honey are keeping up. Roasted almonds and a flavour that I can only describe as having a sip of Legendario rum has entered the fray. Wonderful stuff.
The draw has opened up slightly so I decide to keep the Palio sheathed for now. The burn has corrected itself and the smoke production continues to do well.
This is so tantalizing on the palate. The flavours just keep dancing on my palate for a long time. Very smooth. No harshness at all and soooo easy to retrohale. Perfectly balanced between strength and flavour. So far, this is a ‘Life is good’ type of cigar. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride….
This is smoking LIKE A BOSS!!!! Serenity, relaxation, joy, peaceful, amazement, tranquility. These are the words that come to mind as I smoke through this cigar. The flavours are so complex and fantastically refined, it is mind blowing.
Honey, leather, earth and that ‘Legendario’ sweetness are just singing in unison. The nutmeg has given way to expresso notes that extend the depth of flavours. So good right now. The strength is at a medium level and is just perfect for this flavour profile.
The draw, burn and smoke production are just bang on.
The after finish is just as luxurious. A nice coating of leather, honey, earth, Legendario sweetness and a touch of expresso just last on the palate for a long time. Smoking this very slowly to respect the flavours as well as just sit back and enjoy. Something about this flavour profile just puts you at ease. You feel your body relax, stress becomes an after thought and all you can think about is how good this cigar is tasting right now.
A game changer cigar. The tobacco, construction, flavour profile and strength are all in harmony right now. Not sure if I want to age the remaining cigars as it is smoking so good right now. This is a cigar to pull out when you need to get away from the world for awhile or if you want to silently celebrate one of your life accomplishments. It provides the ability to reflect, gain clarity and relax.
