1995 Partagas 150th Anniversario Humidor Robusto

Got this from one of my B&M excursions. There was a place that had a cabinet of old cigars. I thought it was for display purposes only however, I’ve always been a person who believes that if you don’t ask, you don’t get. So, I went to the manager of the B&M and asked if any of the cigars in the display case were for sale. Luckily, the answer was yes!!!! I had the opportunity to grab a few sticks for a great price. It pays to ask questions…..:)

Let’s see how this is progressing….

The 1995 Partagas 150th Anniversario Humidor Robusto was a commemorative release to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Partagas Factory. The humidor itself was very non de script. Simple yet elegant. There were 150 numbered electronic humidors released.

There were 150 cigars in the humidor. 50 Conde 109s, 50 Coronas Grandes, and 50 Robustos in the humidor. A special band was used for the cigars.

The Partagas 150th Anniversario Humidor Robusto comes in at a standard Robusto vitola with a 50 ring gauge and is 4.9 inches in length.

The wrapper is a nice, light caramel brown. Beautifully applied. No veins to speak of. Very smooth to the touch. Aromas of cream, coffee, chocolate and earth emanate from the wrapper. Reminds me of a cappuccino.

The construction is great. Nice and firm throughout the cigar. No soft spots. Nice and solid. The triple cap is nicely rounded and the foot is nicely packed. Can’t wait to light this up…

A quick snap of my Palio and we are ready to roll.

The draw is firm. Airflow is a little more restricted than I like it to be. Hope this doesn’t affect the experience too much.

Initial flavours from the cold draw are woody notes, lilac?, dark chocolate and cream.

Time to take this to the flame….

First Third
Wow!!!! This is nice. Very complex and just sublime in flavour. Violets, mint, leather and earth just come together in a beautiful bouquet of flavour. Strength is medium. There is a clean tobacco taste, particularly in the after finish and the retrohale. Sooooo smooth. This is fantastic so far. Reminds me of the 1994 that I had the opportunity to smoke earlier this year. Wonderful balance.

The draw is perfect. You can see the tobacco combusting in every draw. The smoke production is all good. The ash is a light ‘Dirty’ whitish grey and the burn is razor sharp. The ash holds on forever. Very dense. This is smoking perfectly right now.

The after finish is luxuriously long. Ample amounts of cedar, clean tobacco, leather interlaced with violets and mint. Very subtle and complex flavour profile. There is a hint of sweetness (honey) that comes in at the back end of the after finish. The retrohale also reveals a hint of roasted nuts. This is an incredible cigar so far….

Second Third
The flavours are just layering beautifully together. So delicate and refined, yet full of flavour. The roasted nuts start to make its presence felt, and combines nicely with the leather, earth and violets. A slight change has occurred with the introduction of sourdough bread and honey. The mint has died down as well.

The burn, smoke production and draw are just perfect.

The after finish has a very hypnotic, relaxing effect. Very lasting on the palate. Leather and violets, intermixed with honey and roasted nuts seem to stay on the palate forever. Very elegant and refined. The strength is a perfect level as it allows for the flavours to stay for a long time.

Final Third
This is such an impressive cigar. The sourdough bread note is gone and is replaced with a hint of star anise and citrus. Brings out the leather, cedar and earth characteristics. The violets have toned down a bit so it’s up to roasted nuts and honey to round out the flavour profile.

Everything that a burn, draw and smoke production should be is happening right now.

The flavours are just singing right now. The violets and honey are more pronounced, really complementing the leather and roasted nuts. Very intricate and complex. Very smooth on the retrohale; full of pure flavour. This is one cigar that you don’t want it to come to an end.

Final Impressions
Unbelievably good. This is a cigar which you wish you had more of. I was fortunate to find one; more dumb luck than anything and wow! What an experience. There is a certain purity with this cigar. Pure in flavour, strength, focus and enjoyment. Like watching kids play basketball. It is more for the joy of the game than anything. Brings a calmness, amazement and happiness that is hard to describe. It’s one of those, ‘you have to experience it for yourself’ type of moments.
