1995 Cohiba Lancero

Received one of these during the holidays and have been waiting to smoke it. With the arrival of some good weather and finally have some time (been crazy busy at work), it was time to break this out to enjoy.

Let’s see how this is progressing…..

The 1995 Cohiba lancero is a delicious looking stick. Just a beauty to behold. Old school band. Weathered, light hazelnut brown wrapper with aromas of cocoa, vanilla and hint of grassiness just makes you salivate in anticipation.

The construction is excellent. Firm throughout the cigar with a slight give when squeezed. The pig tailed triple cap is looking good and the foot is packed.

A quick snap from my punch and we are ready to roll.

The draw is perfect. Nice airflow with a slight resistance

Initial flavours from the cold draw are light cocoa, ecalyptus and soft tones of grass

Time to take this to the flame…..

First Third
WOW!!!! This is beautiful!!! Maybe its the fact that I haven’t smoked a cigar in awhile or the excitement surrounding such an old treasure however, DAMN!!! This is good stuff.

Very well integrated! Beautiful layers of ecalyptus, cocoa, grassy notes, and a touch of cedar. Just delicious. Strength is at a medium level. Everything is on point.

Smooth and silky as eucalyptus, grassy notes and cedar move through the nasal passages.

The after finish is tremendous! Refined, elegant and complete. Eucalyptus and cocoa to start, followed by grassy notes and cedar. Touches of floral notes hit the back of the palate. Gorgeous stuff. Seamless. No harshness to speak of. Pure flavour. Excellent balance between strength and flavour. Lasting on the palate. A wonderful way to spend an evening so far…..

Second Third
Slight tweaks in the flavours. Hints of oolong tea and nougat start to integrate with eucalyptus, grassy notes, cocoa and cedar. More mellow now but still beautifully complex.

The retrohale brings a nice combination of eucalyptus, oolong tea, grassy notes and cedar. Luscious as it moves elegantly through the nasal passages.

The after finish is just hypnotic. Soothing and smooth. Lasting on the palate. Just dreamy to smoke. Eucalyptus, grassy notes and oolong tea to start, followed by cocoa, cedar and a touch of nougat. Very subtle but distinct on the palate. Loving this cigar right now…..

Final Third
Cocoa plays a more prominent role in the final third, along with oolong tea, grassy notes and a touch of cedar. Eucalyptus and nougat walk away in the sunset, leaving these flavours to dance amongst themselves.

Much richer flavour profile, particularly through the retrohale. Nice doses of oolong tea, cocoa, and cedar move through the nasal passages seamlessly.

The after finish just continues to build strength upon strength. Richer and denser now, with oolong tea leading the way, followed by grassy notes and cedar. Strength continues to be at a medium level and remains balanced throughout the whole journey. An excellent finish…..

Final Impressions
Just a wonderfully complex and refined cigar. Lots of nuance and depth of flavours. Excellent layering and subtle changes throughout the cigar to keep you interested. A joy to smoke and a pity it is my only one. Breath taking…..

Just got one of these ’95s early this year from Vin and I planned on smoking it tonight at a poker game. Funny coincidence 🙂
Now I’m even more looking forward to it. Great review.

Happy to see you back at your blog Art (I was getting a bit worried not seeing you posting anything for a while!). Thanks for this excellent review.

    All the best,
