WOW!!! My son is four years old already. Things have gone by so quickly. I still remember holding him for the first time. Brings a tear to my eye when I think how he has quickly developed over time.
The 2010 Edicion Limitada Montecristo Grand Edmundo is his birthday cigar. I smoke annually to celebrate his birthday and reflect on how he has grown over the course of a year. I was fortunate to be able to grab a ‘few’ boxes when they were released so I can continue this tradition over the long term.
Let’s see how this is progressing….
The 2010 Edicion Limitada Montecristo Grand Edmundo is a beautiful cigar. Gorgeous deep chestnut hue of brown with red inflections. The wrapper is slightly toothy and bumpy. Strong aromas of barnyard, cream, coffee and earth emanate from the wrapper.
The construction is good. Slightly spongy in a few areas however, I would say underfilled. The triple cap looks good and the foot is packed…
A quick twist from my punch and we are ready to roll.
The draw is perfect. Open with a slight resistance.
Initial flavours from the cold draw are coffee, cream, vanilla extract and earth.
Time to take this to the flame…..
This is such a fun age right now. The little guy can run, jump, communicate, take risk, express himself and voice his opinion. He is very enthusiastic, outgoing and expressive. Love to see how he is developing. He has an interest in sports, particularly in soccer (following in his sister’s footsteps) and basketball (following in Daddy’s footsteps). He is taking more risks now and is more resiliant. He likes to wrestle and play. So fun to watch him and how everyday is a new adventure….
The 2010 Edicion Limitada Montecristo Grand Edmundo starts off with a bang. Beautiful layers of cedar, earth, cocoa and a hint of molasses envelop the palate. Strength is at a medium level. Nicely balanced between flavour profile and strength. Touches of mint hit my mid palate occasionally. This is coming a long nicely.
The retrohale really highlights the cedar, cocoa and earth as it moves through the nasal passages. Burn, smoke production and draw are excellent at this point.
The after finish lingers on the palate for a long time. Nice to be able to sit back and enjoy the flavours between draws. Cedar, cocoa and earth dominantly lead the way while accents of molasses, mint and touches of cream interlace themselves intermittently. Very relaxing so far…..
Richer now, in terms of flavour profile. Much more emphasis on the cocoa, cedar and earth with little in the way of molassees, mint or cream. Bolder and stronger now…
I am happy to see that my son is very personable. Once he gets to know you, he is very comfortable talking and interacting with you. Recently, I met up with a friend and told my son who we were going to meet. He hasn’t seen him in awhile however, when my buddy came into view, my son screamed out his name, ran to him and jumped up to give him a hug. So proud to see that he has a joy for life and is so good spirited.
The retrohale is equally assertive now. Heavy layers of cocoa, earth and cedar muscle their way through the nasal passages.
The after finish has extended and allows for time in between draws to experience the flavours mending together. Interestingly enough, the cedar, earth and cocoa come out strong however, as things subside, notes of leather, cream and a touch of sourdough bread emerge. Fascinating….
Strength has picked up. Moving almost to medium-full category. Really heavy flavour profile right now. Surprised how strong this has become. Muscular doses of cocoa, cedar, earth and leather. Rich and powerful. Packing a punch…
I love how inquisitive he is. Always looking to understand. He is genuine, in terms of his curiosity and for life around him. I enjoy going for walks and just watching him look around, smelling flowers, softly approaching cats and/or dogs and allowing them to sniff him before entering their space. He is very respectful and sensitive towards others. Always looking to help out. It touches me when he sees another kid crying, he will go up and offer to comfort them or play with them to cheer them up. He is a gentle, caring soul. One of my favourite things to do is to watch him play with his sister. They are kindred souls and I am happy they have each other to be with over time.
The retrohale has some kick to it now. The cedar, cocoa and earth really power through the nasal passages, leaving a distinct impression. Crazy how strong this still is after 4 years in slumber.
The after finish is equally powerful. Big, strong layers of cedar, cocoa, earth and leather that ebb away and reveal nuts, cream and a touch of sourdough bread. Distinct in terms of the layers and addition of flavours throughout the experience.
This is a tremendous cigar that has not reached it potential yet. Seems a little unbalanced due to the powerful flavour profile and strength level. Still needs time to find its equilibrium IMHO. I look forward to seeing what this develops into in a year.
This has been a fun year with my son and daughter. Watching them both develop and have fun together, despite their age differences, warms the soul. I love them dearly and I hope that they know that mom and dad will always be there for them.
My son is growing up so fast. I treasure the moments we have together, both one on one time and as a family. His demeanor, personality and love for life always make coming home fun and something to look forward to. I guess this is what unconditional love means, in terms of your kids. You do whatever it takes to ensure that they have every opportunity to become better people and grow up to be wonderful. Happy birthday son. Daddy loves you….
