I haven’t smoked one of these in awhile. I’ve started to develop a liking to the delicate flavour profile of Por Larranaga. What makes this more enticing is that this is a Dalias vitola that comes in at a 43 ring gauge and is 6.7 inches in length. There were 4,000 numbered 25 count varnished semi boite boxes released.
It’s a shame that this size is being eliminated from the Habanos SA portfolio.
Let’s see how this is progressing…
The wrapper is a rich, honeyed cocoa hue of brown. Aromas of barnyard, honey, earth and cocoa emanate from the wrapper.
The construction is good. A little firm when squeezed, particularly at the foot. Hope that this doesn’t have any draw issues. The triple cap looks good and the foot is packed.
A gentle twist from my Siglo multi punch and we are ready to go.
The draw is ok. A little tight but should be fine.
Initial flavours from the cold draw are honey, molasses, earth and leather.
Time to take this to the flame….
Delicate, balanced, and refined. Honey, marshmellows, graham cracker, with touches of earth, cocoa and citrus. Beautiful start. Strength is at a medium level and supports the flavours nicely. Very soothing and relaxing.
The draw is a little tight but manageable yet the smoke production is decent. The burn is razor sharp and the ash is a ‘Dirty’ light greyish white.
The retrohale is gentle and refreshing. Wonderful layers of honey, earth, cocoa and citrus easily make their way through the nasal passages.
The after finish is just pure pleasure. Gentle yet cloying. Layers of honey, cocoa, earth, followed by marshmellows, graham cracker and citrus.
This is just a joy to smoke. Just delicious. Crazy good. Citrus picks up and bolsters the flavours. Honey, earth and cocoa are supplemented by graham cracker and honey.
The retrohale is so enticing. Citrus, leather, honey and earth smoothly move through the nasal passages.
The after finish is just delicious. Lingering layers of cocoa, earth, honey, graham cracker, leather and citrus. Touches of eucalyptus come in and out of focus, further enriching the flavour profile. The strength continues to be at a medium level. The flavours just dance on the palate delicately, allowing pure enjoyment. Smooth and rich.
The flavours titillate the senses. Cocoa and earth has picked up and taken first position and are complimented by the leather, citrus, graham cracker and honey. The strength continues to be at a medium level.
The retrohale is singing right now. Cocoa, earth, leather and honey move beautifully through the nasal passages.
The after finish is rich and luscious. Wonderful layers of cocoa, leather and earth, followed by honey, citrus and graham cracker. The flavours are richer now as the cocoa, leather and earth have taken a more assertive position. Lots of depth on the palate. Very smooth and refined throughout the cigar.
This is smoking brilliantly right now. The flavours in the first two thirds are well integrated, refined and balanced by the strength.
The baby fat at the end of the final third tells me that there is room for further development. Makes me wish I purchased a few boxes as they have a bright future ahead of it….
