It’s been awhile since I smoked one of these. It’s a deceptive cigar as you would never think that there would be such power in such a small package. It was one of the first ‘long and skinnies’ that were introduced into the program.
The La Escepcion marcs has been discontinued for awhile and seems to be only used now for the Edicion Regional program.
Let’s see how it is progressing…..
The 2011 Regional Edicion La Escepcion Selectos Finos is an elegant looking cigar. It is a Parejos vitola that comes in at a 38 ring gauge and is 6.5 inches in length.
There were 2,000 numbered 25 count dress boxes that were released.
The wrapper is a chocolate, honeyed hue of brown. Aromas of barnyard, earth, milk chocolate and hazelnut.
The construction is excellent. Firm throughout the cigar with a slight give when squeezed. The triple cap looks good and the foot is packed.
A quick twist from my Siglo multi punch and we are ready to rock.
The draw is earth, cocoa, eucalyptus and leather.
Initial flavours from the cold draw are
Time to take it to the flame…..
Very fragrant on the start. Nice layers of earth, hazelnut, leather, woody notes and eucalyptus. Delicious from the get go. Strength is at a medium level.
The draw is perfect and the smoke production is excellent. The burn is razor sharp and the ash is a ‘Dirty’ whitish grey.
The retrohale is rich and luxurious. Gentle layers of eucalyptus, woody notes and leather easily make their way through the nasal passages.
The after finish is cloying. Soft and captivating on the palate. The medium strength level allows the flavours to linger for a long time. Soothing and gently. Beautiful stuff. Wonderful layers of eucalyptus, woody notes, leather and earth. Tremendous start.
This has evolved beautifully over time. The flavours are very refined and elegant. A joy to smoke at this stage. Wonderful balance between strength and flavours. Layers of eucalyptus, earth, leather and touches of cedar. Nice evolution…
The retrohale is so relaxing. Eucalyptus, leather and earth gently make their way through the nasal passages.
The after finish is beautiful on the palate. Great balance between the flavours. Slight amplification of the eucalyptus that is complimented by earth, leather and cedar. Gorgeous right now.
This is getting a little overpowering. The strength has picked up and is flexing its muscles. The flavours are prevalent however, over amplified. Surprising since the first two thirds were so smooth. I sense this is the cigar telling me that there is more evolution to come. Still able to smoke this however, the increase in strength is very assertive.
The retrohale is slightly taxing now, with the increase of the strength. Cedar is stronger now and still is combined with leather, eucalyptus and woody notes.
The after finish is strong. Powerful and fulsome. Heavy doses of eucalyptus, leather, earth and cedar dominate the palate. Strong and assertive with staying power. Need to drink water between draws in order to allow the palate to recover.
This is evolving to becoming a classic cigar. The flavours are solid and complex. Very refined and elegant. The first two thirds of the cigar were excellent however, the final third still showed its youth as it flexed its muscles. The strength bolstered the flavours and were over amplified. I think time will settle this down and integrate the cigar. It would be worth the investment if you could pick up a box. I look forward to seeing how this evolves over time.
