2010 Trinidad 40th Anniversario Canonazo from the Humidor 40 Anniversario de Trinidad

The Trinidad 40th Anniversario Canonazo is a majestic looking cigar.  It is a Canonazo vitola that comes in at a 52 ring gauge and is 5.9 inches in length.  The same size as a Cohiba Siglo VI.

There were 400 Humidors made that contained 40 cigars to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Trinidad brand.

Let’s see how it is progressing……

The wrapper is a lightly honeyed hue of brown that is smooth to the touch.  Aromas of candied roasted huts, earth and barnyard emanate from the wrapper.

The construction is excellent.  Firm throughout the cigar with a slight give when squeezed.  The triple cap looks good and the foot is packed.

A gentle twist from my Siglo multi punch and we are ready to roll.

The draw is perfect.  Nice airflow with a slight resistance.

Initial flavours from the cold draw are: honey, roasted nuts, earth and leather.

Time to take this to the flame…..

First Third

Very strong start.  Woody notes, oolong tea, espresso, eucalyptus and touches of honey and leather.  Medium level in strength.  Robust and full to start.

The draw is perfect and the smoke production is excellent.  The burn is razor sharp and the ash is a ‘Dirty’ whitish grey.

The retrohale brings a deep layers of woody notes, oolong tea, eucalyptus and leather move brilliantly through the nasal passages.

The after finish has a nice weight to it.  Rich and luxurious.  Layers of woody notes, leather, oolong tea lead the way with eucalyptus, honey and espresso have a lasting impression on the palate.  The medium strength level fully supports the flavours and allow them to dance on the palate.

Second Third

Roasted nuts enter the fray, combining with earth, woody notes, eucalyptus, honey, leather and espresso.  Oolong tea takes a hasty exit.  The strength continues to be at a medium level.

The retrohale tilts towards the woody notes, roasted nuts, earth and leather making the flavour profile more richer as it moves through the nasal passages.

The after finish is more richer now.  Layers of roasted nuts, earth and woody notes, followed by leather, eucalyptus, honey and espresso.  Very smooth and refined.  The strength allows the flavours to leave a lasting impression on the palate.

Final Third

Leather, earth, roasted nuts and eucalyptus move to the forefront.  Woody notes, honey and espresso follow suit.  The strength continues to be at a medium level.

The retrohale is gorgeous.  Nice layers of woody notes, roasted nuts and leather, with touches of eucalyptus move smoothly through the nasal passages.

The after finish is soothing and refined.  Layers of woody notes, earth, honey, leather, roasted nuts, followed by eucalyptus and roasted nuts.  The medium strength level allows the flavours to linger on the palate.  The flavours ebb and flow on the palate, taking turns being profiled as the lead.

Final Impressions

This is smoking beautifully right now.  The flavours are well integrated, with no harsh edges and nice depth and character.  Beautiful balance between strength and flavours.  I look forward to seeing how this evolves over time as I suspect that there are more surprises on the horizon….
